Say you have a town—let’s call it Main Street USA. Here are the houses, the power plant, an office building, and a factory.

Each day, as your town awakens, the hustling and bustling begins, and electricity use increases.

Sure, the power plant can increase or decrease power to meet demand but in the dog days of summer, it’s running at full capacity.

What happens when electricity demand exceeds what the power plant can supply?...

There can be blackouts.
